Abstract

El Instituto de Geología y Paleontología - Servicio Geológico de Cuba (IGP-SGC) llevó a cabo, durante el 2020, el proyecto “Guía metodológica para la evaluación del potencial de recursos minerales”, cuyo resultado principal fue la confección de la mencionada guía. Por ello, aquí se ofrece un acercamiento a la evaluación de potencial de recursos minerales como actividad investigativa y a la guía metodológica preparada por el IGP-SGC. Su redacción se llevó a cabo a partir de la consulta y generalización de literatura internacional consultada y de la experiencia propia acumulada por el autor y otros especialistas cubanos. Además de presentar el contenido de la guía, se examinan los antecedentes de la evaluación del potencial de recursos minerales en el mundo y en Cuba y se discuten los rasgos generales de la evaluación de potencial como una fase particular de las investigaciones geológicas. La misma se caracteriza por su flexibilidad metodológica, carácter holístico, aplicabilidad al pronóstico de cualquier clase de recurso geológico y por contener, en su fundamento, el método de la analogía y los principios de la causalidad y la repetitividad de los resultados. Se discute de igual modo, el papel de los modelos de depósitos y de sistemas minerales en la cartografía del potencial mineral.

Author Biography

Jorge Luis Torres Zafra, Institute of Geology and Paleontology Geological Services of Cuba. La Habana. Cuba.

Graduated from the Instituto Tecnológico de combustibles" Vitalio Acuña as Medium Technician in Geophysics in July 1980; he worked in the Empresa Nacional de Investigaciones Aplicadas No 2 (ENIA No 2) in geophysics works applied to geological engineering. In 1984 he joined the Geological Enterprise of Pinar del Río where he participated in the execution of three gravimetric surveys at 1:50 000 scale in that province, in the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud and in the western part of Havana province. In 1989, he graduated as a Geological Engineer from the Higher Institute of Mining and Metallurgy of Moa with outstanding grades, going on to work at the end of 1991 as a geological engineer in the attention to quarries in Havana province on behalf of the Geominera Union, beginning in 1994 to work at the Institute of Geology and Paleontology. Since then he has participated in numerous research projects, particularly in the evaluation of mineral resource potential (8 projects) and metallogeny, participating in the project of the Metalogenic Map of the Republic of Cuba at scale 1:250 000 (2017) and of the book published with the same name and in the Metalogenetic Map of Central America and the Caribbean at scale 1:4,000,000 (2020). He is author of several journal articles and of a chapter in the book "Geology of Cuba" published in 2021 by Springer Publishing House. He has extensive experience as project leader and has the scientific category of Research Associate.
