MINERAL WATER DEPOSITS IN PROTECTED AREAS
Main Article Content
Abstract
Cuba has a large and variety number of mineral and medicinal -mining water deposits distributed throughout the territory. These one generally have a meteoric origin and their composition is related to the water-rock processes interaction, with drained geological environment constituent materials. Inside the Iberoeka research project (IBK-07-533 CATALOGS), the "Catalog of Cuban mineral waters and peloids" project was carried out by Geology and Paleontology Institute, inthis proyect around 1000 manifestations of water were analyzed, and the existence of 86 and 44 peloid deposits were registered, with pharmacological properties, by virtue of the specific conditions of each ecosystem. An analysis of the prepared catalog has shown the presence of 13 deposits in protected areas or in their surroundings, whose geological, hydrogeological, chemical and balneological characteristics are exposed in this work. Taking in acount the relative abundance of mineral and medicinal-mineral waters in Cuba protected areas, their adequate exploitation for the health of visitors can be considered in management plans.
