Abstract

The evaluation of several hillside movements occurred in a section of the northern coast of the province of Mayabeque, between Playa Jibacoa and Boca de Canasí, as a result of intense and prolonged rains, as part of a study of Hazard, Vulnerability and Risk (PVR ) by landslides in that region of Western Cuba, carried out by a group of researchers from the Institute of Geology and Paleontology - Geological Service of Cuba (IGP-SGC), allowed to classify them as flows or debris flows (debri sflows according to the nomenclature used by the Geological Service of the United States). This work is about geological-geomorphological field recognition, the analysis of rainfall records and digital data processing of six events between 2008 and 2015. As a result of study, was carry out a request of the PopularProvincial Camping Company, a hazard map was obtained, from which the areas of greatest vulnerability were determined and risks of material and human losses were calculated in several tourist facilities, built on the coastal belt located in the piedmont of the elevations known as Loma de Perle and Loma del Puerto. It was established that all the northern slope of these, with slopes above 32 degrees and conformed by little compacted eluvio-coluvial material on limestones and marlylimestonesof the Güines-Formation, are susceptible to the occurrence of slope movements of type debris flows, with intense precipitation (more than 100 mm) and prolonged (more than two days), accumulating above 150 mm as the activating factor.
