Main Article Content
Abstract
A total of 116 articles and papers corresponding to four historical stages (19th to 21st century) were analysed, including pioneering authors and others considered national classics in Quaternary Geology, as well as those linked to geological surveys at a scale of 1:250,000 carried out by the former Cuban Academy of Sciences or the CAME polygons, 1:100,000 and 1:500,000 and territorial geological companies, and many presented at various Geology congresses, taking into account their relevance and complexity. A wide range was covered, from the characterisation of small areas to the mapping of territories with national or regional relevance, on the basis of various disciplines and themes: Stratigraphy, Neotectonics, Geomorphology, Quaternary Palaeoclimate, Palaeomagnetism of Quaternary rocks, Cuban marine terraces, findings of Quaternary vertebrate fauna in different localities, geological-geomorphological characterisation of a set of marine-coastal Protected Areas of the island of Cuba or of the archipelagos to the south of it, including mountainous areas (Turquino and Pico Bayamesa), a large number of marine terraces (Desembarco del Granma), peninsulas such as exoticism. Specific studies on fossil dunes, storm ridges, hurcanolites and other interesting topics were included. The results will also be published as a book.
