The National Center of Geological Information of the Institute of Geology and Paleontology, currently Geological Service of Cuba, has implemented a digital repository to safeguard valuable heritage documents and some of them are only in that institution; for the best organization and obtaining of results we worked in research project. The XABAL REPXOS tool was used as a method. The digitization of these documents guarantees their long-term preservation and facilitates their accessibility. This article describes the process of implementing the repository, from planning to execution, and analyzes the challenges and benefits of digitizing a selection of 125 heritage documents in the 1981-2000 period. The experience gained serves as a guide for future digital preservation initiatives in other institutions. This effort contributes to the democratization of knowledge and the protection of scientific and cultural heritage. La preservación del patrimonio documental es esencial para el acceso al conocimiento y la protección de la memoria histórica. El Centro Nacional de Información Geológica del Instituto de Geología y Paleontología, actualmente Servicio Geológico de Cuba, tiene implementado un repositorio digital para salvaguardar documentos patrimoniales valiosos y algunos de ellos se encuentran solamente en esa institución; para la mejor organización y obtención de resultados se trabajó en un proyecto de investigación. Como método se utilizó la herramienta XABAL REPXOS. La digitalización de estos documentos garantiza su conservación a largo plazo y facilita su accesibilidad. Se describe el proceso de implementación del repositorio, desde su planificación hasta la ejecución, y se analizan los desafíos y beneficios de la digitalización de una selección de 125 documentos patrimoniales en la etapa de 1981-2000. La experiencia adquirida sirve de guía para futuras iniciativas de preservación digital en otras instituciones. Este esfuerzo contribuye a la democratización del conocimiento y la protección del patrimonio científico y cultural.
