SOME OBSERVATIONS ON THE SO-CALLED ANTHROPOCENE ALGUNAS OBSERVACIONES SOBRE EL DENOMINADO ANTROPOCENO Peñalver Hernández, Leandro Denis Valle, Roberto González Milanés, Félix Holoceno Geología del Cuaternario influencias antrópicas Paleoclima Holocene Quaternary geology anthropic influences Palaeoclimate The meaning of Anthropocene is here reviewed, as the criteria of some authors, as a possible term to be used to highlight the enormous influence of mankind in changes on the environment, ecosystems, the relief, as well as different physical-geographic, paleoecological, and landscaping aspects, among others, particularly during the last 170 years. It is emphasized that this term has not been approved by the various international associations directly related to geology, particularly the Quaternary geology. Other criteria to be taken into account in any future evaluation are also considered. Se evalúa el significado de Antropoceno, según el criterio de algunos autores, como posible término a utilizar para resaltar la enorme influencia del hombre en los cambios al medio ambiente, a los ecosistemas, al relieve y, en general, a diversos aspectos físico-geográficos, paleoecológicos, paisajísticos, entre otros, particularmente durante los últimos 170 años. Se resalta que este término no ha sido aprobado por las diferentes asociaciones internacionales que tienen que ver con la geología y en particular con la geología del Cuaternario. Se valoran otros criterios que deben tenerse en cuenta en cualquier evaluación futura.
